Despite the decline in GTA 5 sales this quarter for the first time in 9 years, as reported by Take-Two Interactive in its quarterly financial report, the online community of Grand Theft Auto continues to grow. Now even more as Take-Two Interactive has officially confirmed that the studio will continue to support GTA Online with seasonal updates, as Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said in a recent earnings call: Not only has Take-Two assured the fans of seasonal updates to keep the experience fresh, but Rockstar is also conducting a survey to ask the fans about their experience regarding GTA Online and what Improvements and updates they expect in the future for GTA Online.
Take-Two Interactive Updates its Policy for Roleplay (RP) Servers
However, Take-Two Interactive wants the players to have a clean experience in GTA online servers and has updated its GTA Online Roleplay Servers policy. Roleplay servers are an essential part of GTA Online, which gives the players an immersive experience, and they can create their own kingdom within the GTA universe. While Take-Two Interactive respects and supports the creativity of the GTA community and people behind these servers; they have also set some rules that, if not followed, might cause legal trouble to the owners of these servers. Recently when Take-Two Interactive was asked about permission to host roleplay servers with GTA Online, they answered: The company has also set strict rules, especially regarding using and integrating different currencies, loot boxes, and NFT-related stuff in the game. They have made it clear that the trading or use of any kind of NFT or third-party brand and currencies is strictly prohibited, and violation of this will result in legal action. You can have a look at the updated policies below.
Misusing the Rockstar Games brand or its game IP – this could involve using Rockstar Games trademarks and IP in a way that might lead players to believe a server or content thereof was an official Rockstar Games product.Integration of real-world brands – e.g. partnering with, creating assets or in-game events for real world brands such as vehicle or food manufacturers and sports teams for sponsorship and in-game advertising integration.Integration of characters and content from non-GTA or non-Rockstar IP – e.g. creating models of characters from major TV and movie franchises.Integration of NFTs, cryptocurrency, loot boxes, play-to-earn mechanics or microtransactions.
Take-Two Interactive has also made it clear that this new policy is not a license and does not promote third-party roleplay servers in any way.
FiveM’s Stance
FiveM, the most popular host for roleplay servers, has also shown support for Take-Two’s new stance and policy for roleplay servers, and in a blog post, they have said: Take-Two reserves the right to object to any third-party project, or to revise, revoke and/or withdraw this statement at any time at their own discretion.
