Micron previously said they were getting set to release their brand-new 24 Gbps GDDR6X memory modules for the next graphics cards. When the announcement was made, Micron had just released 16 Gb DRAM modules with speeds up to 21 Gbps for NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, which had recently hit the market. We will once again be looking at 2GB VRAM capacities and up to 24 GB capabilities on a 384-bit bus interface since Micron will soon deliver even higher pin speeds of 24 Gbps in a 16 Gb density. The 24 Gbps GDDR6X memory modules can give up to 1.152 TB/s of bandwidth, which is a gain of 14% compared to the 1.008 TB/s available by existing 21 Gbps GDDR6 memory modules, even if the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 isn’t anticipated to use the entire 24 Gbps capabilities. When it debuts later this year, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 will be among the first next-generation graphics cards to make use of the newest GDDR6X memory modules. Given that these chips will probably be downclocked to meet the power objectives, enthusiasts will have a good amount of room for overclocking.
