The Ryzen 9 7900

The Non-X counterpart to AMD’s R9 7900X, the Ryzen 9 7900 (Non-X) features 12 cores / 24 threads. The boost frequencies go up to 5.4GHz, or 200MHz lower than the 7900X. Cache-wise, we see a similar 76MB L2+L3 total cache count as is with the 7900X. Now let’s get over the test results. The test bench uses GIGABYTE’s X670E AORUS MASTER motherboard along with 32GB of memory. The R9 7900 in this test had a base frequency of 3.7GHz, which was boosted to a max of 5.4GHz. This CPU managed to obtain 2121 points in the single-core and 18607 points in the multi-core test. This makes it 5% slower than its X counterpart in single-core performance.

The Ryzen 7 7700

Moving on to the Ryzen 7 family, we have the Ryzen 7 7700 featuring 8 cores / 16 threads. All other specifications are similar to the Ryzen 7 7700X apart from the core clocks. This CPU has a max frequency of 5.3GHz which is 100MHz lower than the 7700X.  Equipped with the same test bench, the Ryzen 7 7700 scores 2074 points and 14061 points in the single and multi-core tests respectively. The 7700X can score almost 7% higher as compared to this CPU.

The Ryzen 5 7600

Last but not least, we have the Ryzen 5 7600 packed with 6 cores / 12 threads. The 7600 has a boost frequency of 5.1GHz, which is 200MHz lower than the 7600X. In any case, the Ryzen 5 7600 can push 2012 points in the single-core test and 11326 points in the multi-core test. This is decent considering this CPU will cost almost $80 less than its X counterpart. However, for just that much money, you are losing out on almost 8% more performance.

Conclusion

Across the board, the Ryzen 7000 Non-X family does not seem to be that much slower than the original Ryzen 7000 CPUs. The only major difference lies in the single-core performance. All things considered, we hope to see a fierce battle between Intel and AMD at CES because Intel has got the platform advantage. However, AMD as of now appears to be faster, at least in the single-core department. Stay tuned at Appuals for more articles like this. Sources: R9 7900, R7 7700, R5 7600
