— Coinbase Wallet (@CoinbaseWallet) December 1, 2022 The official Coinbase Wallet account said on Twitter that Apple has halted the distribution of the company’s most recent iOS app until the feature was turned off that allowed users to transmit NFTs through the app. According to the platform, Apple mandated that NFT transfer fees be paid via in-app purchases on the App Store in order for the firm to receive its 30% profit. This is “clearly not possible,” according to Coinbase Wallet, because Apple’s in-app purchasing system “does not support crypto.” The developers claim that Apple is making it challenging for iPhone users to send NFTs as gifts to friends and family or even move them to other wallets. Apple has added new requirements for apps with NFTs to the App Store rules. Third-party apps cannot “direct clients to purchasing mechanisms other than in-app purchase,” according to the new rules. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed his displeasure earlier this year over the App Store’s lack of support for cryptocurrencies. Regarding the App Store policies, Armstrong claims that there are “possible antitrust issues there.” Now Coinbase anticipates discussions with Apple to remedy this issue, although it’s not certain if Apple will be accommodating given its new policy on apps utilising NFTs.
